Hua Thanon

A small and active fishing village on the south west of Samui. One of the first area to be populated by the people form Hainan in China. A new shrine just off the ring road has been built in tribute to the Chinese God “Guan Yu” and there is a plan to build a 16 metre tall bronze statue of “Guan Yu” which will make it taller than Big Buddha. Still very much a “locals” area with only a few incursions by foreigners and those mainly on the outskirts. Many of the old timber shop-houses still remain along the main ring road and you will see many of the long tail fishing boats moored along the beach.
